Prior to being a real estate broker, I found success as a professional sailor, winning the Canadian National Title from 1980–1984, the Rolex Cup in 1981–1982, the World Cup in 1983, and the Olympic trials in 1984. I competed in the 1983 Pan American games and the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. During that time I owned and operated a sailing school in the British Virgin Islands. In 1984, I came to Maui for one week during a break in my racing schedule. 25 years later, I am still here because there is something about the beauty and peace of the island that I can't resist! It's magical! In 1989 I began my career in real estate, becoming a licensed real estate broker/Realtor with Landmark Maui Properties. My success as a broker lead to a management position. I managed two offices for Landmark Maui Properties. With 21 active agents and a fully-staffed, computerized operation, I was an integral part of capturing a significant percentage of the sales and listings in the growing Mauiresidential market. I was Landmark’s Broker-In-Charge, responsible for reviewing contracts and advising other agents on their transactions. During that time, I personally handled several hundred transactions, representing both buyers and sellers. The vast majority of my clients end up being my dear friends and learning what it is like to enjoy the more subtle ways of life here on Maui! In 2002, I started my own brokerage firm, Maui Oceanic Properties. In addition to individual high-end transactions that are the main part of my business, I was the lead listing broker for two brand new residential projects located upcountry. What does my personal experience mean to you? Over the past 18 years, I have learned a great deal about what it takes to be a successful real estate broker.
